What counts toward the total tow load?+
The fully-loaded trailer weight, plus anything extra you're carrying in or on the tow vehicle beyond its own curb weight — passengers, gear, a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, etc.
What is tongue weight and why does it matter separately?+
It's the downward force the trailer places on the hitch — too little causes trailer sway, too much can overload the rear axle or exceed the hitch's own separate rating.
