Wavelength / Frequency Calculator

Enter a wavelength or frequency to calculate the other, using the speed of light.

545.08 THz

Uses c = fλ with the speed of light in a vacuum (≈299,792,458 m/s) — this applies to any electromagnetic wave, including visible light, radio, and X-rays. For light traveling through a medium other than vacuum, actual speed and wavelength are slightly reduced by that medium's refractive index.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Choose which one to solve for.
  2. 2Enter the known value.
  3. 3See the calculated result.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work for sound waves too?+

No — this uses the speed of light, which only applies to electromagnetic waves (light, radio, X-rays, etc.). Sound waves travel much slower and their speed depends heavily on the medium.
